Khatyad Rural Municipality, Mugu (खत्याड गाउँपालिका, मुगु) was established in 2017 (2073 BS) as a local government of Nepal. The headquarters of the Khatyad Gaunpalika is located in Srikot, Mugu district, Karnali Province of Nepal. The Rural Municipality is known as Gaunpalika in the Nepali Language. Khatyad Rural Municipality is surrounded by Chhayanath Rara Municipality on the East, Bajura district on the West, Soru Rural Municipality on the North Part and Kalikot district on the South.

The total area of the Khatyad Rural Municipality is 281.12 km2 (108.54 sq mi) and the total population of the municipality is according to 2011 (2068 BS) Nepal census is 17,116 individual is living in 3140 individual households. The density of this rural municipality is 61/km2 (160/sq mi). This rural municipality is divided into 11 wards.

Seri, Srikot, Mugu, Khamale, Gamtha, Sukhadhik, Hyanglu, and Kotdada Village development committees (VDCs) were incorporated to form Khatyad Gaunpalika. This rural Municipality came into existence on 10 March 2017.

By considering the possibility of the promotion of Chhayanath and the promotion of one in the middle of the Hindu Dharma, Hindu mediation can be multiplied by the number of religious tourists, and its development has been kept in priority.
