Founded in 1991, Women’s Rehabilitation Centre (WOREC) is a leading national NGO in Nepal working from local to global levels with feminist values to strengthen collective action for women’s rights and feminist movements. In collaboration with diverse feminist human rights movements and networks, WOREC advances the rights of women in diversity and advocates for structural and social transformation at national and international levels.
WOREC works for the protection and promotion of women’s human rights and social justice through campaigns against violence against women and the promotion of women’s economic, social, and cultural rights. The organization operates nationwide through its central office in Lalitpur and provincial and district offices across six provinces.
WOREC is seeking a dynamic, visionary, and competent professional to serve as:
Executive Director
Department: Management
Reporting To: Executive Committee
Location: Central Office, Balkumari, Lalitpur
Position Summary
The Executive Director serves as the executive head of the organization and reports directly to the Executive Committee. The position is responsible for providing strategic leadership and ensuring effective organizational management, program implementation, staff development, fundraising, advocacy, and external representation in alignment with WOREC’s mission, vision, and feminist values.
Key Responsibilities
1. Leadership & Governance
- Serve as the primary link between the Executive Committee and management team.
- Lead the Central Management Committee and facilitate strategic decision-making.
- Represent WOREC in internal and external forums.
- Uphold and promote organizational vision, mission, and feminist values.
- Foster transformational leadership and mentorship within the organization.
2. Strategic Management & Organizational Development
- Lead strategic planning, implementation, and review processes.
- Ensure programs align with organizational priorities and community needs.
- Facilitate organizational learning, adaptation, and change management.
3. Program & Operations Oversight
- Supervise programs, campaigns, and district-level operations.
- Coordinate with program managers, district coordinators, and thematic leads.
- Ensure quality implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL).
4. External Representation & Advocacy
- Represent WOREC in national and international networks and forums.
- Advocate for women’s rights and social justice.
- Strengthen stakeholder engagement and policy influence.
5. Fundraising & Donor Relations
- Identify funding opportunities and lead proposal development.
- Build strategic partnerships and maintain donor relations.
- Ensure compliance, reporting, and accountable fund utilization.
6. Human Resource Management & Organizational Culture
- Promote staff development, motivation, and retention.
- Foster an inclusive, safe, and respectful workplace culture.
- Support HR planning and organizational capacity building.
7. Knowledge, Communication & Learning
- Supervise communication and knowledge management functions.
- Promote innovation, documentation, and knowledge-sharing.
- Ensure evidence-based advocacy and strategic decision-making.
8. Ethics, Accountability & Compliance
- Ensure adherence to safeguarding, ethical standards, and feminist principles.
- Promote transparency and accountability across all organizational levels.
- Monitor responsible use of organizational resources.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s, M.Phil., or PhD in Social Sciences, Management, Economics, Rural Development, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of the development sector, rights-based approaches, and human rights mechanisms.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in program management.
- At least 3 years of leadership experience in a senior management role.
